Second China Sensitive Skin Summit Forum: Winona Leads New Trends in Cosmeceutical Skincare Sector

In April, a month marked by a relatively frequent occurrence of skin sensitivity, the cosmeceutical skincare sector gained great attention again. Winona Research Institute recognized for its advanced and standard-setting work in the sensitive skin research field, collaborated with five major industry associations to organize the Second China Sensitive Skin Summit Forum. This event took place on April 18 at the Anandi Hotel and Spa in Shanghai. Under the theme of Scientific Repair and Measures Against Sensitivity, the forum leveraged the strength of the industry, universities, and research institutes and brought together renowned professionals in the dermatology industry to share and discuss new thoughts and breakthroughs about skincare solutions for sensitive skin. The forum aimed to set new benchmarks and provide fresh insights that could guide the innovation and transformation of the skincare industry. This significant industry event was conducted with in-person and online attendance. Nearly 200 participants were present on-site. Many online guests were invited to join virtually through Winona's Tmall live streaming and official social media accounts.

A gathering of industry professionals to release new guidelines for the cosmeceutical skincare sector

A year had passed since the First China Sensitive Skin Summit Forum, and in that time, the persistent epidemic reshaped our lives, with mask-wearing being an example. However, wearing masks for a long time caused 64% of people to experience skin issues like allergies, acne, redness, and peeling skin. Women were particularly affected, with 69% being bothered by skin issues from wearing masks. What once might be considered an individual problem evolved into a collective concern. After the national strategy's release for achieving a Healthy China and Beautiful China, sensitive skin issues required urgent responses.

At the summit, experts, including Zheng Zhizhong, He Li, Ma Huiqun, Liu Wei, Xiang Leihong, and Gu Jun presented a new standard for anti-sensitive hydrating products within the cosmeceutical skincare sector (Industry Standards of Anti-sensitive Hydrating Skincare Products and Guidelines for Application to Sensitive Skin). This academic contribution won widespread recognition and acceptance within the industry, setting benchmarks as an authoritative guide for innovation in the skincare sector. In addition, it also stood in consumers' shoes to offer safe, scientific, and effective methods for individuals managing sensitive skin.

Professor He Li, Head of the Chinese Association of Plastics and Aesthetics' Cosmeceutical Cosmetics Branch, observed that setting industry standards could enhance product quality and foster standardization across the industry. This would also drive the industry's optimization, leading consumers toward a more scientific approach to skincare. The necessity of this new standard was clear and its widespread adoption could be a significant step for the public to fight against skin sensitivity.

Professor Ma Huiqun, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of The Chinese Journal of Dermatovenereology, highlighted that nearly one-third of dermatologists particularly emphasize the utilization of anti-sensitive hydrating skincare products for sensitive skin. Professionals on-site provided a more detailed and in-depth understanding of the industry. During the introduction to anti-sensitive hydrating skincare products, Associate Professor Yuan Chao of the Cosmetology Group of the Dermatology Branch of the Chinese Medical Association summarized that anti-sensitive hydrating skincare products are instrumental in improving and reshaping sensitive skin conditions.

Medicine Master Diao Ping from the Department of Dermatology & Venerology at West China Hospital of Sichuan University, contributed research (Study on the Effectiveness of Winona Sensitiveness Relieving Moisturizing Tolerance-Extreme Cream in Relieving Skin Issues Triggered by Wearing Masks and Injuries of Facial Skin Barrier) that using Winona's Sensitiveness Relieving Moisturizing Tolerance-Extreme Cream can effectively mend skin barrier injuries caused by long-time mask use and alleviate symptoms like skin sensitivity.

Beyond the focus on anti-sensitive and hydrating functions, consumers with sensitive skin are often concerned about the potential irritants in their sunscreen products. Addressing the critical need for sunscreen in sensitive skincare routines and the quality demand for such products, Professor Liu Wei, Chief Physician from the General Hospital of the Air Force PLA offered expert guidance. Consumers should select sunscreens with safe components, gentle and light texture, and effective against photodamage. Professor Liu specifically praised the sun protection offerings from Winona.

Shouldering responsibility: Winona spares no effort to support industry standardization

In the cosmeceutical skincare market, consumer trust outweighs gold in value. Earning consumer recognition goes beyond publicizing products and effectiveness. It requires offering a scientific foundation to support consumer choices. Winona, a cosmeceutical brand specializing in sensitive skincare solutions, has tapped into this industry pain point. By leveraging resources from authoritative dermatologists, Winona is at the forefront of leading the formulation and enhancement of China's cosmeceutical regulations and standards, supporting a standard and positive evolution of the industry.

"Among the more frequent sensitive skin conditions, the cosmeceutical market is witnessing a surge of brands, with the bad becoming mixed with the good. Thus, it is crucial to embrace collaborative efforts between industry, academia, and research institutes in establishing standards for cosmeceutical products. It is also important for these standards to achieve mutual recognition across regions and nations, ensuring that cosmeceutical skincare products genuinely address and fulfill consumer needs," said Professor Zheng Zhizhong, Executive Director of the Chinese Non-government Medical Institutions Association and Chairman of the Dermatology Committee. Professor Zheng gave a clear explanation of the nature of establishing industry standards.

The National Medical Products Administration released three new regulations just before the forum on April 9, encompassing the Rules and Catalogue for Classification of Cosmetics, Evaluation Standards for Cosmetic Effectiveness Publicity, and Technical Guidelines for Safety Assessment of Cosmetics (2021 Edition). These regulations symbolize China's cosmetics market's formal advancement into the cosmeceutical era. In response to these regulatory efforts, Dr. Guo Zhenyu, Chairman and General Manager of the Botanee Group, delivered a keynote speech. He expressed that these national policies proved Winona's consistent dedication. Our efforts not only earned recognition from experts, society, and the market but also got approval from our country!

Professional forum contributed by dermatologists: discussions on breakthroughs and future trends in the cosmeceutical era

Following the new regulations' interpretation and the new standard's issuance, many esteemed scholars and industry veterans conducted two sub-forums to unfold the future potential of cosmeceutical products.

The discussions started with exploring breakthroughs the cosmeceutical products could make from academic standards to practical application within the industry. The consensus among several experts indicated that the road ahead for the cosmeceutical industry held both opportunities and challenges. For Winona, opportunities prevailed over potential challenges! The release of national regulations might exert considerable pressure on most cosmetic enterprises. In contrast, Winona proactively adopted the industry-university-research collaboration model, securing an advantageous position for the brand when coping with the new regulations. Thus, Winona could make a difference regardless of any pressure.

During the second sub-forum, some experts offered consumers practical solutions based on the causes, assessment, and skincare processes of sensitive skin. From first-hand clinical observations, these professionals mentioned that the major catalyst for skin sensitivity is often skin barrier injuries due to improper use of cosmetic products. Adopting a simplified skincare routine is a straightforward method to reduce sensitivity issues. Furthermore, Professor He Li and Dr. Zhu Tingting, leveraging years of foundational research, recommended those aiming to fight against skin sensitivity to use cosmeceutical products. With over a decade of clinical efforts, Winona has developed products that combine hydrating and anti-sensitive functions and skin barrier restoration. These products change the condition of sensitive skin for numerous consumers, cultivating a dedicated customer base.

Advanced insights into the specific sector: Winona introduces new anti-aging opinions in the cosmeceutical skincare field

Winona, a brand known for its focus on sensitive skin research, is a pioneer in recognizing that general anti-aging solutions do not adequately address the specific needs of people with sensitive skin. While most cosmeceutical brands are merely focusing on stability and safety, Winona, with the support of Winona Research Institute, has moved ahead from academic study to technical application in the domain of anti-aging for sensitive skin. This advancement is expected to have a significant influence on consumers who prioritize sensitive skincare solutions.

"Many brands are focusing on skincare products for sensitive skin. However, the market potential for sensitive skin extends beyond mere basic skin barrier repair. It is essential to consider an upgrade for sensitive skincare routines. The brand has decided to create anti-aging products specifically designed for sensitive skin types. Looking ahead, there are plans to introduce products aimed at whitening or reducing imperfections on sensitive skin," said Director Dong Junzi of the Botanee Group in his address. Dong also expressed his anticipation for the brand to make a greater presence in the sensitive skincare market by combining medical expertise and scientific research and fulfilling the diverse needs of users with sensitive skin in future offerings.

Tactics are proved efficient by victory and strategies prevail for ultimate triumph. After analyzing the forum, it was clear that the event was not just a traditional exhibition for academic achievements. It served as a pivotal starting point for cosmeceutical products that test research capabilities and brand strength within the industry. Winona, a brand focusing on sensitive skin solutions, has been deeply rooted in the sensitive skincare segment since its inception. It insists on sustained research in this domain and collaborates with dermatologists domestically and internationally to undertake extensive fundamental research and tests into the sensitive skin issues in Chinese people. Through these efforts, Winona can provide proper skin repair concepts and scientific skincare routines that have gained wide consumer acclaim. Winona will expand its market share and explore a purer future while supporting the stable advancement of the skin health industry across China.
