Winona Leads the Era of Delicate Care for Sensitive Skin with Accurate Insights

As a cosmeceutical brand specializing in sensitive skin, Winona, a part of the Botanee Group, has consistently established high industry standards for safety and efficacy since its inception. Additionally, the brand has upheld the social responsibility of leading enterprises by setting trends and standards, actively advancing the fusion of medical expertise with scientific research. This effort aims to foster the industry's standardized and benign growth while laying a solid theoretical foundation for creating China's skin health ecosystem.

On May 25, the Winona Research Institute, together with five authoritative institutions, co-organized the 3rd China Sensitive Skin Summit Forum (hereinafter referred to as the "Summit Forum"). The event was exclusively broadcast online in partnership with People's Daily New Media. In response to the pandemic, the Summit Forum engaged with consumers in a unique online format. In addition to the innovative online format, the third Summit Forum sparked lively discussions within the industry with latest academic topics and cutting-edge field research.

Integrating Medical Expertise and Scientific Research to Develop a Plus Blueprint for Sensitive Skin Care

"In the future, building upon our legacy, we are committed to further delve into sensitive skin research, aiming to fulfill the diverse needs of sensitive skin. We will advocate for the advancement of cosmeceutical regulations in China and champion the industry's positive growth. With the mission to "create China's skin health ecosystem", we are poised to propel the cosmeceutical sector into a new era."

Following the impassioned opening speech by Dr. Guo Zhenyu, Chairman of Botanee Group, the 3rd Summit Forum was officially opened. In the discussion on "Basic Research on Sensitive Skin", Prof. Philippe Humbert, a renowned dermatologist from France and director of the Skin Research Center at the University of Franche-Comté, delivered a speech titled "Physiological and Pathological Mechanisms of Sensitive Skin". He provided insights into the physiological basis of sensitive skin, as well as detailed information concerning its neural and epidermal mechanisms. In his speech, Prof. Philippe Humbert emphasized that sensitivity of the skin is unrelated to ethnicity; instead, core factors include urban environment, place of residence, country, cultural practices, dietary habits, and local climate.

Prof. Liu Wei, a consultant at the China Dermatologist Association, elaborated on the definition and causes of sensitive skin, as well as specific sunscreen requirements for sensitive skin in the discussion titled "Specific Sunscreen Requirements for Sensitive Skin". As for the problem of precise sun protection for sensitive skin, Prof. Liu summarized five key aspects of sunscreen products: gentle formula, lightweight and transparent application, balanced protection, soothing repair, and multi-scene fine protection. These guidelines provide comprehensive insights for consumers with sensitive skin.

In the discussion on anti-aging for sensitive skin, Prof. Li Li, President of Chronic Skin Conditions and Health Promotion Branch of China Anti-aging Promoting Association, analyzed the endogenous and exogenous factors affecting skin aging. In his presentation entitled "Research Progress on Aging and Anti-aging of Sensitive Skin", he outlined the features of sensitive skin aging along with specific targeted solutions. Prof. Li Li emphasized that individuals with sensitive skin should focus more on the factors contributing to skin aging. Apart from prioritizing sun protection and changing bad living habits, they should select skincare products according to principles of dermatology. It is crucial for them to opt for comprehensive anti-aging products that support barrier repair, inhibit SASP, and enhance collagen levels.

In the round table talk, regarding consumers' concerns, Winona assembled a panel comprising top dermatologists, industry media professionals, and consumer opinion leaders to explore the profound requirements of sensitive skin and emerging trends in professional skincare.

Prof. He Li, Prof. Liu Wei, Prof. Zhou Zhanchao, Prof. Li Li, Ms. Li Huihua, the founding partner of Chaileedo, and the renowned skincare KOL "Exquisite Uncle", convened online for an extensive discussion and exchange on topics concerning sensitive skin.

Prof. He Li, head of the innovation team at the Ministry of Education and Vice Chairman of the Asia-Pacific Skin Barrier Research Association, highlighted the importance for consumers to adopt a proper skincare approach. This involves avoiding triggers for sensitive skin like overcleaning, excessive skincare routines, and frequent product changes in order to prevent sensitive skin issues. When sensitive issues arise, it is essential to choose cosmeceuticals with anti-sensitive repair effect. Additionally, while exploring the advanced needs of sensitive skin, Professor He also highlighted that sensitive skin are more susceptible to dark spots due to barrier damage. Therefore, a four-in-one approach is necessary to address skin whitening and spot fading scientifically.

Industry experts mentioned that the needs of consumers with sensitive skin are still evolving and advancing, indicating significant growth potential in the cosmeceutical market. They expressed a desire for the Summit Forum to drive the cosmeceutical industry towards a more expansive and profound direction, anchored in consumer demands and cutting-edge professional research findings. This move aims to deliver more scientifically advanced skincare products to consumers while contributing further to China's health development strategy.

Cosmeceutical Products Flourish under Accurate Frontier Insights”

In 2020, Winona held the first China Sensitive Skin Summit Forum, unveiling guidelines and consensus on dermatological skincare to popularize the knowledge of sensitive skin care. In 2021, at the second Summit Forum, the Winona Research Institute brought together experts from industries, universities, and research institutes to collectively explore the most recent findings on sensitive skin care.

This year, operating under the theme "Professional Repair for Sensitive Skin", the forum is dedicated to tackling urgent issues and challenges related to sensitive skin care. Topics under discussion range from the physiological basis of sensitive skin to areas like sun protection, whitening, and anti-aging for sensitive skin. Moreover, the event includes an analysis of professional care methods for sensitive skin and the exchange of innovative ideas, recent progress, and significant breakthroughs in sensitive skin research. Through this event, Winona aims to jointly explore aspects requiring improvement in the diagnosis and treatment of sensitive skin conditions. This time, the Winona Research Institute is once again at the forefront of the sensitive skin sector, offering precise insights and leading the trend in category innovation.

At the Summit Forum, Botanee Group outlined Winona's future strategic layout by stating, "After a decade of research on sensitive skin repair, Winona has gradually developed into plus product lines for sensitive skin, including areas like sun protection, whitening, anti-aging, and functional makeup base. In response to consumers' increasingly scenario-based needs, we must offer them a selection of products for delicate skin care. In the future, Winona will also focus on categorizing sensitive skin types and conduct R&D on specialized products tailored to these categories. This will involve exploring target pathways related to the pathogenesis of sensitive skin."

Exploring Unique Opportunities in a Red Ocean: Unveiling the Trend of Delicate Care for Sensitive Skin

In addition to the valuable Summit Forum, Winona also released the 2022 White Paper on Delicate Care Trends for Sensitive Skin together with Tmall Beauty and TMIC. The white paper thoroughly analyzes and presents the current development and market opportunities within the sensitive skincare market. It explores the trend of delicate care for sensitive skin and provides insights into the future prospects of the sensitive skincare market.

According to the current trend, the sensitive skincare market is experiencing sustained rapid growth and shows a trend towards localization. Across all categories, essences and sunscreens have emerged as new red oceans. Consumer demand for skincare products tailored to sensitive skin has evolved significantly in terms of efficacy, ingredients, and skincare routines, reflecting a trend towards delicate care.

While there is a wide market for sensitive skin essence products, the options specifically designed for sensitive skin are currently limited. Given that the whitening and anti-aging mechanisms of sensitive skin differ from those of healthy skin, it is essential to develop related products specifically formulated for sensitive skin.

Sunscreen products also present two major trends: scenario-based precision and efficacy segmentation. For instance, daily scenarios necessitate comprehensive protection across various spectrums, exposure scenarios demand immediate protection with a perceptible effect, and sensitive scenarios require soothing and reparative properties. Various symptoms also necessitate targeted sunscreen products to provide scientific solutions for specific issues.

Lastly, the White Paper provides insights into the future of the sensitive skincare market from three perspectives: product development trends should be centered on sensitive skin classification; advancements in ingredients/technology should align with dermatological cellular and genetic research; and consumers are seeking effective and gentle skincare options.

As we can see, with the backing of dermatology and extensive data on problematic skin, solutions for problematic skin will become more precise. Furthermore, as professional knowledge of sensitive skincare becomes more widespread and consumer awareness grows, new trends in the sensitive skincare market and opportunities for category innovation have emerged.

Dedication to Public Welfare: Upholding the Brand's Long-Term Core Values

The China Sensitive Skin Summit Forum has completed three successful years under the sponsorship of the Winona Research Institute. Winona aims to leverage academic insights to empower the beauty industry, utilizing authoritative scientific research to enhance product efficacy. Winona's commitment to public welfare demonstrates the brand's steadfast adherence to its core values through tangible actions.

In alignment with the theme "Professional Repair for Sensitive Skin", Winona launched a four-day event offering free online consultations with doctors from May 27 to May 30, following National Skin Care Day on May 25. This live session, broadcast on Tmall's streaming platform, aimed to provide direct skincare guidance to consumers and address queries related to sensitive skin care. Since 2013, with a focus on the "5.25" initiative, Winona has partnered with the Chinese Medical Doctor Association to conduct extensive free medical consultations on dermatology nationwide and disseminate knowledge regarding scientific skin care. This year, Botanee Group, the parent company of Winona, also joined the "Guard for Love" charity initiative during the jacaranda season. Botanee invited front-line community workers and volunteers to attend skincare lectures, uniting efforts for charitable causes with love.

For over a decade, Winona has remained dedicated to specializing in products for sensitive skin, with a focus on long-term goals. As a leading cosmeceutical brand in China, Winona has now become the listed company with the highest market value of cosmetics in the country.

Standing on the shoulders of giants, Winona will persist in combining medical expertise with scientific research, catering to the diverse needs of consumers and offering more professional solutions for individuals with sensitive skin. It will also further introduce new standards, guidelines, and trends for the research on sensitive skin care, steering the evolution of this sector towards a more standardized and scientific direction.

Enterprises are often defined by national boundaries, while brands transcend borders. Winona is committed to consistently building brand depth anchored by the twin pillars of botanical technology and medical expertise, progressing over time towards becoming a globally recognized brand.
